An intern’s experience at BDO Auckland

BDO Auckland’s summer internships give students exposure to a wide range of activities and experiences.

Aimee, an intern from BDO Auckland’s 2023/2024 intake, shares her insights into the internship programme and what makes it an exciting opportunity for students.

Exploring different business areas

Aimee Johnson“I applied to the BDO Auckland internship because I was interested in trying all three service lines [Audit, Tax, and Business Advisory] before committing to a full-time graduate role.

I also wanted to get a better understanding of accounting beyond university and see its application in the real world.”

  1. Guidance when you need it

“Assisting graduates and managers with their work means there’s always someone to ask for help or guidance. A typical day as a BDO intern involves spending time with other interns, and as the internship is rotational, no two days or weeks are the same. This keeps it exciting.”
  2. Participating in meaningful work

“Some of the highlights of my time as an intern at BDO Auckland include trying different service lines and finding the one that fits me best, as well as meeting and getting to know the other interns and all the different members of each service line. I’ve enjoyed being able to participate in real, meaningful work.”

Advice to applicants:
“Apply! It’s such a great opportunity to try different areas of accounting, meet new people, and see what it’s like to work in a professional services firm.
